7th International Symposium “Catholic Heritage in Georgia” was held in Sabauni
On June 25-26, the international symposium "Catholic Heritage in Georgia" took place at Sulkhan-Saba Orbeliani University, commemorating the 400th anniversary of Queen Ketevan's martyrdom.
The majority of presentations delivered at the symposium focused on the Queen Ketevan. Speakers delved into historical sources and authors pivotal in documenting her torture, as well as discussed the significance of her holy relics.
Additional presentations explored historical records left by Catholic missionaries regarding Georgia, along with the lives and contributions of Georgian Catholic figures.
The symposium concluded with the launch of "Georgian Catholic Doctors", a book authored by Catholic scholar Zhuzhuna Feikrishvili, and the screening of two documentaries.
Professor Sidh Losa Mendiratta from the University of Porto, an honorary speaker, highlighted the discovery of Queen Ketevan's relics in Goa.
The symposium "Catholic Heritage in Georgia" is an annual event that has been held since 2017. Its primary objective is to raise awareness within society, not only about the contributions of Georgian Catholics but also about the broader role of the Catholic Church in the development of Georgia.
